Maine museum offers $20,000 reward for piece of meteor seen over Northeast

BETHEL (WGME) -- The Maine Mineral and Gem Museum in Bethel is offering a $20,000 reward for meteorites from the fireball that was seen streaking through the Maine sky Tuesday. The fireball was seen across the Northeast and Canada. The museum suspects the meteor entered Earth's atmosphere over Maine and its terminal explosion occurred about 30 km west of Rangeley in Franklin County. It's offering a $20,000 reward for the first one-kilogram meteorite recovered which will receive a place of honor in the museum's Meteorite Hall.

Mainline Pharmacy reaches milestone of distributing 100,000 COVID-19 vaccines

Cambria County, Pa. (WJAC) — Saturday morning, Mother Provincial Klara Slonina of Cresson was 'rejoicing.' That's because she got her final dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. But it wasn't just any shot -- Mother Klara received Mainline Pharmacy's 100,000th dose. Since mid-January, Mainline has held 105 vaccine clinics, contributing to their new grand total of vaccinations to date. Jerry Moschgat, owner of Mainline Pharmacy, said the community made it all possible.

Steelers' assistant Brian Flores to accept job as Vikings DC

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — According to NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Pittsburgh Steelers' senior defensive assistant coach Brian Flores is reportedly accepting the job to be the next defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings. Flores was hired by the Steelers last February after being fired from his head coaching position with the Miami Dolphins. Prior to being hired in Pittsburgh, Flores filed a discrimination lawsuit against the NFL and all of its franchises, claiming that the league and its teams do not follow its own process for interviewing minority head coaches.

115 canines rescued after doggy daycare catches fire in Seattle

SEATTLE (KOMO) — More than 100 canines were rescued after the doggy daycare they were in caught fire in north Seattle Wednesday morning. The fire was reported just before 11 a.m. and began inside the Dog Resort, a dog daycare and boarding business. Seattle fire officials believe the blaze began in the laundry area of the daycare. A KOMO helicopter flew over the scene Wednesday and saw firefighters battling the fire and evacuating dogs from the business.

Fired State College Police Officer now in Johnstown, target of federal civil lawsuit

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A police officer fired from the State College Police Department two years ago is now working for the Johnstown Police Department. Now, he's at the center of a $1.2 million federal lawsuit for allegedly assaulting a man during a traffic stop in Johnstown. According to court documents, Johnstown Police got a call for a "weapons incident" on March 29th of this year. When Officer Joseph Scharf responded, the arrest affidavit says he conducted a traffic stop and started questioning occupants in the vehicle.

Massachusetts spent nearly $400K to review vaccine records in state shelters, report says

BOSTON (TND) — Massachusetts has spent nearly $400,000 on “vaccine record reviews” for migrants and other individuals staying in its emergency shelters, according to a state report obtained by the Boston Herald. The findings came as part of a biweekly report on the shelter system released by state finance officials. Centre County journalist faces mounting legal troubles over alleged teen sex solicitation

CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — More legal problems, including more possible criminal charges, are facing a Centre County journalist accused of soliciting sex with teenagers. At the Centre County Courthouse Wednesday morning, Christopher Morelli was guided out of the building following his court appearance. 6 News asked him for comment. He declined. Within recent weeks, the 54-year-old Morelli has been arrested twice: Two separate cases on similar charges soliciting sex from teenage girls.
