NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump’s legal team rested its case Tuesday in his hush money trial after calling just two witnesses and opting not to have the former president take the stand in his own defense.
But despite what Hollywood courtroom dramas might suggest, that isn’t all that unusual, according to criminal defense lawyers and former prosecutors.
The reason is simple: Prosecutors need to prove their case, while the defense only has to show there’s reasonable doubt their client committed a crime.
BELLEFONTE, Pa. (WJAC) — Last minute “touch-ups” are underway at the John Montgomery Ward Field at Governor’s Park in Bellefonte, in anticipation of the high school varsity baseball home opener on Tuesday.
After several months, the project's nearing completion. Wednesday saw the Bellefonte varsity baseball team practice on the new field for the first time.
The project also bringing along new dugouts, a new press box, new fencing along the first and third base sidelines, and a new drainage system.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa (WJAC) — Penn State tight end Pat Freiermuth has reportedly declared for the 2021 NFL draft.
“It has been an absolute honor representing the Blue and White these past three seasons,” said Freiermuth. “When I received my offer from Penn State, I knew right away it was the place I wanted to be. Obviously, the way my career ended wasn’t what I wished for, needing season-ending surgery on my shoulder.
UNIVERSITY PARK — Nittany Lion wrestler Bo Nickal (Allen, Texas) has been named the 2019 Big Ten Jesse Owens Male Athlete of the Year. Nickal was honored from a field that featured each of the 14 Big Ten members’ Male Athletes of the Year. Iowa women’s basketball player Megan Gustafson was named the 2019 Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year.
Nickal is the first Penn State student to be named Big Ten Male Athlete of the Year since fellow wrestler David Taylor was honored in 2014.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — At least 50 vacant structures are coming down this year.
They are dangerous eyesores in the Hornerstown, Kernville and Prospect neighborhoods.
Allen Hinton has lived in Prospect for just about all of his life. And today brings a glimmer of hope.
“I said praise the Lord,” Hinton said. “It's about time.”
Run-down box houses in his neighborhood along William Penn Avenue will be no more.
“Rodents, people filling them up with trash and stuff,” Hinton explains.
BELLEFONTE, Pa. (WJAC) — The Festival of Trees concluded this weekend, but that doesn't mean the fun stopped there.
If sponsors didn't wish to keep their tree, they had the option to donate it.
Those trees were then dropped off at Bellefonte’s Faith Center Monday for families in need.
The trees came with all the decorations that went into them, and it was first come, first served for people to pick them up.

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Three construction workers killed Wednesday morning in eastern Pennsylvania all worked for Somerset-based CriLon Corp, company officials confirmed.
State police say the three workers were killed just before 4 a.m. in an active York County work zone along Interstate 83.
They say a box truck being driven by a 24-year-old crashed into a construction vehicle before hitting the three workers on the shoulder of the road.
BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. (WPEC) - The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado hit Broward County.
The preliminary report shows it as an EF-1 tornado with wind speeds between 90 and 100 miles per hour.
The NWS is trying to pinpoint exactly where the tornado formed before it made its destructive path through South Florida.

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — State police are identifying Thursday's Somerset County drowning victim as a 13-year-old boy from Coraopolis in Allegheny County.
Crews were called to the Stonycreek River just before noon near Seanor Road for reports of the boy trapped underwater.
State police say the boy was on a guided river tubing trip through Coal Tubin' Adventures of Johnstown.
They report the child fell off the innertube and became trapped.
