ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — Sheetz says they will be celebrating Independence Day by lowering gas prices to $1.776 per gallon.
They say the reduced price commemorates the year when the Declaration of Independence was signed: 1776.
“Sheetz is a family owned and operated company and we are always looking for ways to assist the communities and customers that we serve,” said Travis Sheetz, President and CEO of Sheetz. “We hope this discount helps our customers keep a little more change in their wallets as they travel to celebrate the 4th of July with friends and family, with an obvious nod to our nation’s birthday.
Washington County, PA (WPXI) — An old Pennsylvania smokestack came crashing down on Tuesday.
The 425-foot smokestack imploded at the former location of the Elrama power plant in Washington County.
The plant, which was built in the 1950s next to the Monongahela River, was decommissioned in 2012 and imploded earlier this year.
Demolition crews used 55 pounds of explosives to bring down the stack, sending debris and dust high into the air.

An inmate at the Jefferson County Jail has been charged with assaulting two corrections officers. According to a probable-cause affidavit, at about 9:18 p.m. on June 4, police say 26-year-old Brandon Geer punched an officer in the head and body multiple times while being detained at the jail. He kicked another officer in the face during the altercation, according to the affidavit. The incident allegedly occurred in a room after Geer covered the security cameras with toothpaste, poured a liquid onto the floor and refused a lockdown order.

Philly.com reports the turnpike is now accepting credit cards at toll booths across the state.
Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission spokesman Carl DeFebo says toll collectors began receiving card readers last month.
DeFebo says cash and E-ZPass are still the preferred methods of payment, but with fewer people today carrying cash, this gives drivers another option.
DeFebo calls it "a backup" if you get to the toll booth and don't have any cash.
