PA Supreme Court hears case between PennDOT, State College contractor

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — The ongoing dispute between a Centre County based construction company and PennDOT was the subject of a Pennsylvania Supreme Court hearing this week. In August of 2021, Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc., of State College, pleaded no contest to four wage theft related charges filed by the state’s attorney general’s office. Hawbaker, while denying guilt, agreed to pay more than $20 million dollars in restitution. PennDOT sought to ban Hawbaker from bidding on state road contracts for three years.

School board member charged after guns, drugs, cash found in his vehicle

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) — A Bellwood-Antis school board member is facing a slew of charges after police say a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs, rifles and cash. Thirty-three-year-old Jason Lynn, of Bellwood, is facing felony charges related to drug manufacturing and delivery along with receiving stolen property. According to a criminal complaint, Altoona police initiated a traffic stop on Saturday along Broad Avenue for a vehicle with a brake light out.

2 inmates escape Philadelphia prison, undetected for hours

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Authorities searched Tuesday for two inmates — one accused of killing four people — who were gone from a Philadelphia prison for nearly 19 hours before officials knew they were missing. Ameen Hurst, 18, and Nasir Grant, 24, escaped from the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center around 8:30 p.m. Sunday by cutting a hole in a fence surrounding a recreation yard, the Philadelphia Department of Prisons said. Nanty Glo Park and Pool open for business

NANTY GLO- Tons of people crowded the Nanty Glo Park and Pool Tuesday as the temperatures continued to rise. The pool manager said the pool opened later into the year because repairs had to be made beforehand. PA FedEx driver shoots suspect during robbery

PHILADELPHIA (CNN) — Philadelphia authorities say a FedEx driver shot and killed someone during a would-be robbery Tuesday night. It happened in the city's Lawndale neighborhood just after 7 p.m. The driver told police he'd just dropped off a package when he encountered the armed robber. The suspect shot the driver in the abdomen, which is when the driver said he pulled out his own gun and fired multiple times.

Anti-Israel protests held Saturday at college commencements

Small protests popped up sporadically Saturday as colleges and universities from North Carolina to California held commencement ceremonies, including dozens of graduating students at Virginia Commonwealth University who walked out on an address by Gov. Glenn Youngkin. While some of the estimated 100 students and family members who left during the Republican governor's speech showedsupport for Palestinians, others held signs signaling opposition to Youngkin's policies on education, according to WRIC-TV.
