Alligator slips away from Pa home into river, is recaptured

WRIGHTSVILLE, Pa. (AP) — An alligator that wandered away from his owner's Pennsylvania home slipped into the Susquehanna River but was found the following day. The York Daily Record reports that Oscar is believed to have gotten out of the pen at the Wrightsville home sometime Thursday. The 3-foot-long animal was spotted Friday morning in the Susquehanna. Owner Tyler Hake, a biologist who works with reptiles and has had Oscar since he was about 16, was in western Pennsylvania conducting a survey.

Decades old Bellefonte drug store announces closure

Bellefonte, PA (WJAC) — A decades old “Mom and Pop” drug store and gift shop in downtown Bellefonte is closing. The owners of Plumb's Drug Store announced Monday morning that they will be closing their doors after 72 years of business. The owners say the last day the pharmacy will be open is next Monday, the 17th. The retail part of the store will stay open a little longer as they work to clear out the rest of their merchandise.

Local business owner shares impact of Coronavirus

HUNTINGDON, Pa. (WJAC) -- Standing Stone Coffee Company in Huntingdon Borough was among the few businesses that did not have to shut down operations because the pandemic, but the business still took a hit. “Our numbers were cut down to about 20% of our original sales,” said Greg Anderson, Owner of Standing Stone Coffee Co. Anderson said he adapted his business, adding curbside pickup, delivery and taking online orders. The wholesale side of his company flatlined, as other businesses in the area stopped buying his products following the shutdown.

PennDOT site gives drivers road conditions, plow locations

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Motorists who must drive in winter weather can check www.511PA.com for current road conditions. According to PennDOT, 511PA is free and available 24 hours a day. It provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 860 traffic cameras. PennDOT said drivers can check the conditions and snow-plow locations of more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles of roadways.

DuBois couple charged for multiple armed robberies in Blair Co. with infant in car, police say

Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities say a DuBois couple is behind bars following a pair of armed robberies in Blair County earlier this week. Police say Amber Herren and Joseph Mazza are accused of robbing the Unique Tobacco Store, located along Valley View Blvd. in Altoona, early Monday morning. Authorities say the couple was then accused of robbing the Dollar General Store located along Tyrone Pike, approximately two hours later.

Earthquake Causes Damage in Central Oklahoma

A 5.0-magnitude earthquake centered near one of the world's key oil hubs brought down building facades and shattered windows. The temblor triggered fears that key infrastructure may have been damaged and century-old buildings left unsafe in the latest Oklahoma town rattled by increasingly strong quakes. Cushing Assistant City Manager Jeremy Frazier told a news conference late Sunday that a few minor injuries were reported. He said the damage appeared to be contained to downtown, where piles of debris sat at the base of some commercial buildings.

Over 90 dogs rescued from distressing conditions by Bedford County Humane Society

An investigation into a Bedford County home on New Year's Eve has led to the Bedford County Humane Society being extremely overcrowded. More than 90 dogs were brought to the shelter on Sunday night and volunteers say they were here until one in the morning making the dogs as comfortable as they could be. New Year’s quickly became busy for the workers at the shelter. The shelter manager Kathy Ramsey says that they can comfortably fit about forty-five dogs and that after last night they have about one-hundred and fifteen.
